Renting a Car?
The previous post highlighted places within walking distance of the hotel. Although a car isn't necessary if you are just staying the weekend in Omaha, we wanted to highlight a few notable places to visit if you decide to rent a car and/or extend your visit to Nebraska!
Visit Nicole's Hometown
- Check out the Saunders County Museum, which features Wahoo's Five Famous Sons. In high school Nicole helped design and build the exhibits on George Beadle, a Nobel Prize winning Geneticist and C. W. Anderson, an author and illustrator.
- Consider picking up some Wahoo Wieners or other meats form the Wahoo Locker. You can buy them frozen in order to have them survive the trip back home.
- For lunch, try the old-school Wigwam Cafe or the Nebraska classic Runza. For those who aren't familiar, Runzas are a rectangular dough pocket filled with beef, seasonings, and a variety of other options (e.g. mushrooms, swiss cheese, bacon). Runza is a Wahoo classic, and whenever Nicole and Mohan visit Nebraska, Runza needs to be on the menu at least once.
Visit Planes and Buffalo
Through Away Your Money in Iowa
- Take a trip west on I-80 to visit the Omaha Zoo's Wildlife Safari Park. Nicole and Mohan have visited here a few times on their trips to Nebraska. It's a drive through park, but with multiple locations to park the car and hike in order to get a better view of the animals.
- Right next to the Safari Park is the Strategic Air and Space Museum. This museum focused on military aircraft and nuclear missiles.
- Visit Mahoney State Park which has hiking, miniature golf, water slides and a wave pool. This park is also right next to both the Museum and the Safari Park.
Through Away Your Money in Iowa
- Right across the river from our hotel there are a variety of casinos. Since our blog is sending you there, Mohan and Nicole would like to claim .14% of any winnings. Any losses are your own. Your casino options include:
Other Things of Note
- Check out a gigantic Mammoth skeleton at the University of Nebraska's Morril Hall
- Visit a Nebraska Vineyard - Nicole's parents always have a variety of bottles available from James Arthur Vineyards. Be warned, their wine is quite sweet!
